Momo- Book Review and Storyline

Momo is a book in German by the author Michael Ende for children above ten years of age.

The book is about a young girl named Momo who lives near an old amphitheatre at the edge of the city. Her best quality is that she is a great listener. She has two good friends with whom she enjoys a happy and content life until one day, the grey men ( called the Grauenherren in German) arrive in their city with an offer to save time. They discourage people from spending time with their loved ones or engaging in leisure and relaxation activities. Many people fall into this trap and end up having dry, boring lives with no room for anything other than work.

As the situation starts going out of control, Meister Hora, a mysterious character who wants to save everyone from the grey men, enters the picture. He has a plan but needs a human to bring it to fruition. He engages Momo, the young and innocent girl, to undertake this activity and save people from the grey men.

Momo is the story about how Momo, alone, takes up the task and succeeds in turning the plan into reality.

The story is interesting but has a much deeper meaning, which younger children may or may not completely grasp. However, since the characters in the story are young kids and the author expresses the idea in a simple and comprehendible language, it is a great read for children.
