What do you do when you have lots of apples lying in the fruit basket, and no one is willing to eat them? Well, it happens in my home quite often that fruits are brought and never eaten. Every time I see that happening, I make a jam out of them and keep them in the fridge. They stay good easily for a month and get consumed much faster than fresh fruits!
Making jams is also a good idea when you get seasonal fruits and wish you enjoy them even after the season ends. Moreover, homemade jams are made without preservatives and food colors and are a safer option than bottled jams in supermarkets. Learn more about fruit preserves such as Jams and Marmalades here.
The recipe for making apple jam is very easy and just requires two ingredients.
Ingredients needed for making Apple Jam:
- Apples: 5
- Jam Sugar (Gelier Zucker in German): 1 1/2 cups ( To know which Gelier Zucker to use, click here)
Method for making apple jam at home:
- Peel and cut the apples.
- Then chop them into small pieces in a food processor.
- In a pan, cook the apples for about 5 minutes.
- Then add the sugar and cook for 13-15 minutes on medium heat.
- Then take it out and let it cool.
- Once it cools completely, transfer it to a clean and dry jar and keep it in the fridge till further use.
Note for my readers in Germany:
In Germany, Gelier Zucker is easily available in supermarkets. But choose the sugar based on the fruit. You can find details about Gelier Zucker in my article, in which I have explained this product and its uses.
Note for my readers in other countries:
If Jam sugar is not easily available, for this recipe, you can replace it with normal sugar + 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. The results will be similar.
