Cucumber salad with yoghurt and sesame

Cucumber Salad with Yoghurt and Sesame

A well-prepared salad can not only accompany your main course but can also act as a mini meal in itself. Salads are a great addition to your meals. They bring a nice freshness, especially when served with rich foods.

I love making simple salads by combining salad vegetables with salt, lemon juice and possibly some nuts or seeds. They are a great way of consuming fresh vegetables. You can serve them with your main course or have them as a mini meal. I recently shared the recipes for Mung Bean Sprouts Salad and Raddish/Cucumber & Peanut Salad. Do check them out.

Today’s recipe is yet another simple yet delicious one. It is called Cucumber Salad with Yoghurt and Sesame. To make it. I have used simple, everyday ingredients from the kitchen.

In this recipe, I have used cucumber, but you can get creative and use any vegetable, such as tomatoes, onions, radishes, greens, etc, to suit your taste.

Now, let’s start with the recipe.

Equipment Needed:

Ingredients Needed to make Cucumber Salad with Yoghurt and Sesame:

  • 1 Big Cucumber, cut into small dices
  • 2 tbsp Yoghurt
  • 2 tbsp Roasted Sesame Powder
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 2 Pinches Asafoetida
  • 2 Green Chillies; chopped
  • ½ tsp Roasted Cumin Powder
  • Salt; to taste
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves

Method to make Cucumber Salad with Yoghurt and Sesame:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine cucumber with sesame seed powder and yoghurt.

  • Add salt, cumin powder and coriander leaves. Mix well.

  • Heat oil in a pan. Add curry leaves, green chillies and asafoetida. Fry on medium heat.

  • Once the green chillies turn slightly brown, add this fried mixture to the cucumber mix. Cucumber Salad with yoghurt and sesame is ready to be served.

Some additional notes:

  1. I have used cucumber for this recipe. You can use any locally available salad vegetable.
  2. You can make sesame powder at home and store it in an airtight container. That way, you can use it in various recipes. It stays good for three months.
  3. Always roast sesame seeds on low to medium heat and constantly mix them so they don’t burn.
  4. If you find roasting sesame tedious, buy roasted sesame seeds from the shop and coarsely grind them at home.
