Recipe for Wheat Dosa
Dosa is undoubtedly one of the most popular South Indian breakfasts. Traditionally, it is made with ground rice and lentils fermented overnight.
However, many times, we are short of time and/or haven’t done any planning. In such situations, instant recipes always help. One such instant recipe is Wheat Dosa. This recipe doesn’t require you to plan anything a day ahead. With some basic ingredients readily available in the kitchen, you can make these delicious and nutritious dosas.

So, let’s start.
Ingredients required for Wheat Dosa:
- 3 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
- ¾ Cup Semolina (Sooji)
- 1 tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 Cup Sour Curd/Yoghurt
- ⅓ tsp Baking Soda
- 4 Cups Water
- Sesame Oil, for frying the dosas
Method to make Wheat Dosa:
Combine wheat flour, semolina, salt, sugar, and cumin seeds in a mixing bowl.
Mix well.
Add yoghurt.
Add water. Whisk it and make a smooth batter with no lumps.

Rest the batter for about 15 minutes.
After resting, the semolina will absorb water, and the batter may seem thicker. Add more water if needed. The batter should neither be too thick nor too thin.
Add soda and mix well.
Heat a pan. Reduce the heat to low and spread the batter circularly, keeping it as thin as possible.
Increase the heat to medium. Drizzle some oil along the edge and on the surface. When you see it browning, remove it from heat. If your dosa is thick, it will not wholly cook without flipping it once. So, flip it if needed.

Remove from heat and serve with chutney and/or sambar. In the picture, I served my wheat dosa with Bangalore-style instant Sambar. You can also check 13 Chutney recipes that you can pair with South Indian Breakfasts.
