It is autumn, and it is pumpkin season. From farms to supermarkets, you can see fresh produce of this delicious vegetable. During this time, many varieties of pumpkins are available and can be used in various recipes.
Over the years I have lived in Germany, I have always been excited about this season. Every year, as autumn arrives, I visit pumpkin fests and try various pumpkin dishes. Today, I have put together some of my favourite pumpkin recipes. I make all of these quite often in my kitchen. The recipes are easy to follow, and the dishes are lip-smacking.
So, let’s check out 7 Easy and Delicious Indian-Inspired Pumpkin Dishes You Can Make in your kitchen this Autumn. Click on the recipe links. Apart from the detailed recipes with pictures, I have shared information about ingredient sourcing in Germany.

Pumpkin sambar has got to be my all-time favourite. Sambar is a spicy and tangy lentil stew made in South India. Adding pumpkin to the sambar gives it another dimension. The sweetness of the pumpkin balances the spiciness and tanginess of various spices and tamarind.
2. Pumpkin Cake

This is a simple and quick Pumpkin Cake recipe. The cake is moist, and the hint of cinnamon and nutmeg will remind you of the cold winter days ahead. This cake is perfect to pair with your coffee. Black coffee paired with this sweet and flavourful cake is a match made in heaven.

It can’t get simpler than this! Combine pumpkin with wheat flour and knead, then combine them. Make paranthas and pair them with any gravy of your choice. I served pumpkin parantahs with egg curry and beetroot raita, and it looked stunning and tasted yummy.

Also called Chatpati Kaddu ki Sabzi, this pairs perfectly with plain whole wheat flour paranthas. The secret to this recipe is the spice mix. Cumin, fenugreek, fennel, and onion seeds, combined with turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder, jaggery and dry mango powder, make this dish spicy and sweet.
5. Spelt Flour and Pumpkin Kulchas

This is my take on the traditional kulcha recipe. These flavourful kulchas are made with spelt flour, wheat flour and grated pumpkin. A final sprinkling of pumpkin seeds completes the dish. I paired these kulchas with a delicious chickpea gravy. You can pair it with any gravy of your choice. This is literally autumn on your plate!

Warm up with this delicious butternut soup as the days get cooler. Though butternut is not a pumpkin, its taste, colour, and texture are similar, and it is available in markets around the same time as pumpkins. The results will be similar if you replace butternut squash with pumpkin in this recipe.
7. Chana Dal and Pumpkin Sabzi

This semi-gravy dish is made by combining chana dal with pumpkin. A range of spices gives multiple dimensions to this dish. I paired this sabzi with Arugula pooris, and it was a match made in heaven! Try this combination, and you will surely love it.
Happy Cooking, and enjoy this lovely autumn season!
