The Golden Couple

The Golden Couple-Storyline and Review

Mathew and Marissa are the Golden Couple. To an outside eye, their life is perfect. They are teenage sweethearts, good-looking, have a family, are rich, and seem to have everything one may wish and envy. But in reality, they and their lives are far from perfect.

Avery, a therapist known for her unconventional but result-oriented methods, has a 10-session strategy, in which she guarantees getting into the crux of the matter and helping her clients move forward.

Marissa and Mathew approach her. Marissa discloses that she has deceived her husband by cheating on him. Marissa claims she loves Mathew and her son Bennet wholeheartedly and doesn’t want to give up her family at any cost. She wants Mathew to understand her, forgive her and help move forward with their lives. She knows it will not be easy, so she takes Mathew for a session with Avery and seeks her help.

Avery agrees to take up the case. At that point, little does Avery know that it is not a simple case about solving a marriage that is in trouble and that she, despite being one of the smartest of consultants and therapists, known for solving the most complex of cases, would herself get tangled in the twisted tale of the golden couple.

Avery starts investigating Marissa, Mathew and the people in their lives. As she gets more closely acquainted with the seemingly perfect couple, she realizes that their lives are far more complicated than what meets the eye. As her investigation progresses, she unveils parts about their lives that, at first, seem to have no impact on their current state of relationship but, in reality, play a key role in practically everything happening in their lives, and as a consequence, her life too!

As the sessions proceed, the focus keeps shifting from one person to the other. At one point, when the reader starts believing that a particular character is the one to hold accountable, the focus shifts to another character, who, too, seems equally culpable. When the reader supposes that a certain character is behind all the mishappenings, the focus shifts to someone else they had least suspected. In this way, the author cleverly discloses the characters who have a role in Mathew and Marissa’s lives, gradually unveiling their concealed truths and intertwining the story of the couple and their therapist.

Ultimately, does Avery succeed in solving the case, or is it beyond her potential? To what extent can Avery go to untie the complex knots of mystery surrounding the couple and also solve the issues troubling her? Can she go one step further, use the situation to her advantage, and get more out of it apart from her obvious exorbitant fee? Read this exciting book to find out more.
