The Gita for Children

The Gita for Children-Review

‘The Gita for Children‘ is an enlightening book and a must-read for children and adults who have not read the Geeta before. Written in very simple language, the book starts with an introduction to the story of Mahabharata. It sets the stage for the most incredible conversation between Arjuna and Lord Krishna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.

On the day of the battle, when the great war is just about to start, Arjuna gets all jittery and starts questioning whether what he is about to do, i.e. kill his brothers and relatives, is morally correct. At that weak moment, when Arjuna cannot find his feet, Lord Krishna comes to his rescue.

The great conversation starts between Arjuna, the warrior prince, and Krishna, his beloved friend and charioteer. During the conversation, Arjuna asks various questions, and Krishna patiently answers each one. Through this discourse, Krishna imparts various teachings to Arjuna and tells about rights and wrongs, duties and responsibilities, our nature, and how we should act as per our instincts and, above all, do all our work with complete dedication without the expectation of rewards and acknowledgement from others.

The narrative is straightforward, and the book is divided into chapters-each starting with a shloka in Sanskrit with its meaning in English. This is followed by the chapters about the teachings and lessons from Gita. The author gives a lot of fun trivia and examples from everyday life and how we can put the learnings from the Gita into practice, thus making the reading experience relatable and helping the reader map the teachings with various events and experiences from their own life. The author has succeeded in making it a delightful read.

It is a thought-provoking book meant for ages ten years and above. It would be ideal for parents to read to their children.
