Schülerbeförderungskosten
In Germany, most children travel to school using public transport. Parents usually buy their children a monthly pass or a yearly pass for sending the children through public transport. The annual pass turns out to be cheaper than the monthly pass x 12. It costs 1 Euro per day, i.e., 365 Euros per year.
In most cases, the expenses for transportation must be borne by the parents. But there is also a possibility of entirely saving that money by getting a reimbursement.
Who is entitled to reimbursement?
Children up to the fourth grade are entitled to reimbursement of costs if the shortest distance to their school is more than two kilometres ( one way) from the place of residence.
Children from the fifth grade up to the completion of middle school (secondary level I) are entitled to reimbursement of costs if the shortest distance to their school is more than three kilometres ( one way) from the place of residence.

What is the procedure for getting a reimbursement?
Step 1: Buy the ticket from the RMV office. Retain the receipts.
Step 2: You can obtain the relevant applications from the school or institute.

Click Schülerbeförderungskosten. You will find the forms on the right.
Step 3 :
- Fill up the form.
- Attach the tickets.
- Take it to the school and get it confirmed by them ( the Schulsekretariat can help with this).
Once the school confirms it, you can post the form to the Schulamt. ( The address is mentioned on the form itself).
It is ideal to do this before the academic year starts. You can purchase the ticket in advance, and its validity can be made to start from the 1st day of school.
If you plan to do it during the summer holidays, check the dates and timings when the Schulsekretariat is open.
In a few days, you will receive a letter from the Schulamt stating that your request was received and if it was accepted or rejected. Based on the response, you will receive/not receive the money.
