Recipe for Prawn and Dill Pesto Pasta

It is summer in Germany and my terrace garden is blessing us with lovely harvests, the latest one being Dill. Here is my latest harvest.

The fragrance of fresh Dill leaves has always enticed me. Its aroma and taste are unique and stand out. Usually, when I use dill leaves, I drastically reduce the use of spices. That way, the taste of dill leaves shines through the dish.

I have already shared the recipes for Eggs Cilbir– a turkish breakfast recipe with eggs, Dill and Potato Sabzi– an Indian side dish and Nuchinunde– a lentil rich breakfast recipe from Karnataka, India. In all these recipes, the taste of dill shines and renders are lovely aroma to the dish.

Today’s recipe is Prawn and Dill Pesto Pasta. For this recipe, I prepared dill pesto using the fresh dill leaves from my garden. I have shared the recipe for both in this post.

Kitchen Equipment needed:

Ingredients for Dill Pesto:

  • 2 Handfuls Dill Leaves
  • 8-10 Walnuts
  • 8-10 Almonds
  • 2 tbsp Sunflower Seeds
  • Lemon Zest from 1 Lemon
  • 8-10 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2-3 Garlic Cloves
  • Salt; to taste

Method to make Dill Pesto:

  • On medium heat, toast all the nuts and seeds. When well toasted, remove and let the seeds cool.


  • Use a food processor or mixie jar to finely crush the nuts and seeds.


  • Add dill leaves and garlic.


  • Add olive oil, spoon by spoon and blend it into the paste.


  • Add salt and lemon zest. Mix well.


  • Dill Pesto is ready.

Spread it on bread and enjoy!

Ingredients needed for Prawn and Dill Pesto Pasta:

  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Medium-Sized Onion, thinly sliced
  • 220 gm Prawns
  • 500 gm Pasta of your choice
  • Dill Pesto (As prepared above)
  • Salt; to taste
  • ½ tsp Crushed Black Peppercorns

Method to make Prawn and Dill Pesto Pasta:

  • Cook the pasta as per the instructions on the pack.


  • Heat oil in a pan. Fry onion slices till they turn translucent.


  • Add prawns. Fry them till they are fully cooked. Add pesto.


  • Add the cooked pasta.


  • Mix well.


  • Add salt and black pepper as per your taste. You can garnish with cheese if you wish.
