Recipe for Chicken and Cheese Burger

Weekends are a perfect time to make something different- something other than the ‘regular food’ we eat throughout the week. This is also the time when we, as a family, try recipes from different cuisines of the world. It is also the time we experiment and get creative.

Keeping up with the ‘trying something different’ trend, last weekend, we made Chicken and Cheese Burgers. My teenage kids literally freestyled it and tried out different spice combinations, some of which we had never tried before. Despite their lack of experience with kitchen ingredients, surprisingly, the burgers came out really well. They were juicy, tasty and lip-smacking!

They were so good that I decided to put them in my blog for my future reference and for my readers to try out this simple yet delicious recipe.

Some weeks back, I posted the recipe for Indian-Style Kidney Beans Burger. That is, again, one quick and easy burger recipe. Check it out too!

Before I begin with the recipe for Chicken and Cheese Burger, let me take you through information about some of the ingredients that I used:

Chicken: I used chicken breast. It cooks fast. When flattened and fried on a pan, it takes 5 minutes to cook the patties. So I would recommend using chicken breast pieces for this recipe.

Chilli Powder: I have used Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder in my recipe. It gives a nice bright colour and is not so hot. If you wish, you can replace it with some hotter chilli/use chilli flakes/use paprika powder.

Sauce: For the sauce, I have combined mustard, mayonnaise and tomato ketchup. You can add a little bit of honey and/or a spoonful of Worcestershire sauce to this sauce. That tastes great too.

Salads and other Ingredients: I have used only lettuce. However, you can add other salad veggies, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, onions etc. I have topped it with fried bacon. If you wish, you can add/remove them. You can even add a half-fried egg to the burger and let the egg yolk drip as you assemble the burger. It gives a nice look and adds another element to the burger.

Burger Buns: In Germany, it is common to find ‘laugen Burger Buns’. I like their taste and have used them in my recipe. However, you can use any burger bun, or for that matter, any bread of your choice.

Now, let’s start with the recipe:

Kitchen Equipment needed:

Ingredients needed for Chicken and Cheese Burger:

Ingredients for the Chicken Patties ( About 12):

  • 600 gm Chicken Breast
  • Salt; to taste
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
  • ½ tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Dry Rosemary leaves
  • 6 Slices Cheddar Cheese
  • Oil; to brush on the pan

Ingredients for the Sauce

  • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Mustard Sauce
  • 1½ tbsp Tomato Ketchup

Additionally, you need:

  • 2 Large Onions
  • Lettuce Leaves
  • 12 Bacon
  • 6 Burger Buns

Method to make Chicken and Cheese Burger:

  • Wash and pat dry the chicken breast.


  • Mince it in a food processor.


  • Transfer to a mixing bowl. Add salt, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary and red chilli powder. Mix well.


  • Take out 12 portions. Make small balls.


  • Grease the chopping board with oil. Place the meatball on it. Pat it with your fingers to flatten it to the size of the burger bun.


  • Heat a grill pan. Brush some oil. Place the chicken patties. Fry them


  • Once the patty is cooked on one side, flip it.


  • When both sides are evenly cooked ( but not fully cooked), place a cheese slice on one patty. Cover it with the other patty.


  • As the cheese melts, the patties will get stuck to each other. Make all the patties and keep them aside.


  • Make a sauce by combining mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup.


  • Fry the bacon till they are crispy.


  • Fry the onions with 1/2 tsp sugar till they turn golden brown.


  • Wash the lettuce leaves, pat dry and keep them ready.


  • Now, assemble the burger. Apply the sauce on both the burger buns. Place lettuce leaves on the base bun, followed by the chicken patty, followed by fried bacon and fried onions. Cover with the other bun.

Yummilicious Chicken and Cheese Burgers are ready! They are indeed a delicious weekend recipe 🙂
