Recipe for Masala Omelette
Masala Omelette is a quick and easy Indian breakfast recipe made with eggs. In many cities, these are also available as street food, wherein people who head out early in the morning and have no time to cook and eat at home stop by a street vendor for a quick breakfast of omelette and pav ( and Indian soft bread ). The street vendors smear a generous amount of butter on the pav and serve it with an omelette. It is a hearty breakfast that keeps you filled and satisfied for a long time. It is easy on the pocket too.
Masala Omelette happens to be the most common Egg recipe in my home too. So, here goes the recipe:
Ingredients needed to make Masala Omelette:
- 8 Eggs
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 Big Onion; Chopped
- 1 Big Tomato, Chopped
- 2-3 Green Chillies; finely chopped
- 4-5 tbsp Finely chopped fresh coriander leaves
- Salt; to taste
- Black Pepper Powder; to taste
- 4 tbsp Milk
- Oil; to fry the Omelettes
Method to make Masala Omelette:
- Heat oil in a pan. On medium heat, fry green chillies and onions till the onions turn translucent.
- Now add tomatoes and coriander leaves. Fry for a minute or two more.
- Turn off the heat, let this mixture cool and come to room temperature.
- In a mixing bowl, take 2 eggs at a time. Add salt and black pepper powder to taste.
- Add a portion of the fried mixture. Add one tablespoon of milk. Mix well.
- Heat a greased nonstick pan. Pour the egg mixture. Spread it evenly. Cook on medium heat, or else the egg can burn.
- Drizzle some oil on the edges of the omelette. After about a minute, fold it from the centre. Cook for 10 seconds. Flip the omelette and cook for another 10-15 seconds.
- Take it out and serve
Masala Omelette is usually paired with Pav or any soft white bread. However, since I live in Germany, I created a fusion dish by serving my masala omelette with German whole-wheat bread
