Recipe for Orange Cake

Any happy occasion requires a celebration, and in any celebration, something sweet to eat is a must. On one such happy event in my life today, I made an Orange Cake. In the past, I have shared a couple of dessert recipes with my readers, namely Carrot Halwa, Banana Cake, Apple and Zucchini Cake and Apple pie. Everyone at my home loves orange cake. Its lovely light orange hue is a treat for the eyes, and its unique sweet and citrusy taste makes it stand out from other cakes. And, of course, it tastes delicious. It is an ideal companion for black coffee.

So, let us start with the recipe.

Ingredients needed for Orange Cake:

  • 350 gm Refined Flour (For my readers in Germany: Mehl 405)
  • 250 gm Unsalted Butter
  • 5 Eggs
  • 50 ml Orange Syrup ((For my readers in Germany: Getränkesirup mit Orangen-Geschmack)
  • 100 gm Candied Orange peels (For my readers in Germany: Orangeat)
  • 250 gm Powdered Sugar
  • 15 gm Baking Powder
  • 50 ml Water
  • 5 gm Salt

Method to Make Orange Cake:

  • Preheat the oven to 180 deg C for 10 minutes.
  • Mix refined flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. Sieve the mixture.

  • Beat the eggs.

  • Add butter and mix well.

  • Add this mixture to the dry ingredients mix.

  • Add water. Mix well.

  • Add Candied orange peels and orange syrup.

  • You may feel that the batter has curdled a bit. Dont worry. Transfer it to a greased and dusted baking dish.

  • Bake at 180 deg C for approximately 35 minutes OR till a toothpick, when inserted, comes out clean. After the cake is baked, let it cool at room temperature.

  • Dust some powdered sugar on top and serve.
